New Forum Software

After a long time debating with myself, I decided to pull the trigger today and change my forum software from phpBB to Simple Machines Forum. The main reason I switched software was the amount of spam I received, both posted and through reporting but the difficult installation of modifications and the not SEO friendly URL’s were other reasons.

New WordPress theme

As you can tell, if you visited my blog before, I finally changed my theme. I’ve been looking for a new theme for a long time but never could find anything to my liking so I decided to create my own theme, AVH Clean.

Downtime last night

Due to a move of my domain from one server to another, including a Apache 1.3 to Apache 2 upgrade, the site experienced some downtime last night.
My apologies, but as you can see everything is fine now.

What is it with spammers?

In a weird way I understand why spammers spam, get extra traffic to the site they are promoting or trying to get you to a site to sell you something. But why keep they trying when there 1st attempt was blocked to begin with and sometimes it’s just flat out strange what they are trying to post. And I say trying because the majority is stopped by my WordPress plugin AVH First Defense Against Spam/

Caught my first previously unknown email harvester.

Thanks to my plugin AVH First Defense Against Spam and a honey pot I have set up with Project Honey Pot I caught my very first previously unknown email harvester.

Part of the email I received today:
