How to update the custom compiled kernel to a new release using gitPosted by Peter in UbuntuIn a previous article I addressed how to compile a kernel for Ubuntu Intrepid using git and in a follow up article I explained how to compile a new release if you already compiled your own custom kernel using git. The upgrade article was written if the kernel upgrade was one where the only ABI number changed was the last one. Updates:

Compiling a new release of the Ubuntu Intrepid kernel using gitPosted by Peter in UbuntuPreviously we discussed how to compile a custom kernel for Ubuntu Intrepid. What if a new version is released? Do we really need to go through all these steps again? Luckily we don’t, if you used git to get the source code. Previously I wrote an article on how to compile a custom kernel for Ubuntu Intrepid, it used the apt-get method for getting the kernel source. If you prefer to use git to get the latest kernel source you can use this post. Most of this post is a copy of the previous post but to make it easier to follow the instructions I decided to write up everything in this post as well. Updates: I run Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 on Dual Core 2 laptop with 4 GB of memory. The default kernel supplied by Ubuntu doesn’t support the 4GB memory, I could choose to run the server kernel but I also want to take advantage of the Core2 support in the kernel so I took it upon myself to compile a custom kernel.
